CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (April 2) – Petra OLLI (FIN) won her third title of 2015 at the European Under-23 Wrestling Championships and took over the top spot at 60kg in this month’s United World Wrestling rankings for women’s freestyle.

While Olli is the only new No.1 for April, other top-ranked wrestlers used the women’s World Cup in St. Petersburg to reaffirm their positions at the head of the pack.

World champions Chiho HAMADA (JPN), Yulia TKACH (UKR), and Adeline GRAY (USA) were all unbeaten at the World Cup, but SUKHEE Tserenchimed (MGL) at 60kg slipped up against Oksana HERHEL (UKR) at the World Cup, leaving an opening for Olli to take over the No.1 ranking.

Herhel finished the World Cup with a perfect record and grabbed a bronze medal at the European U23s, after a semifinal loss to Olli, to bound from No.13 to fourth in the rankings.
Also in St. Petersburg, two-time junior world champion Risako KAWAI (JPN) ran the table at 58kg, including a win over world silver medalist Valeria KOBLOVA (RUS), to take over the No.2 ranking behind world and Olympic Games champion Kaori ICHO (JPN).

In addition to the key World Cup match-ups in St. Petersburg, medalists at the Medved Prizes International and the European U23s, like Olli and Herhel, also made their move up the rankings.

The biggest leap came at 55kg where Alyona KOLESNIK (AZE) defeated Medved Prizes winner Zalina SIDAKOVA (BLR) on her way to the European U23s crown to go from unranked to No.6.  Sidakova, meanwhile, followed Kolesnik to No.7 after being ranked 15th a month ago.

At 53kg, Iryna KURACHKINA (BLR) won the Medved Prizes No.1 before the home crowd but then lost by technical fall in the European U23s final to Liliya HORISHNA (UKR). Both wresters went from unranked to No.11 and No.12, respectively.

48kg – Nadezhda FEDOROVA (RUS), winner of bronze medal at the 2014 European championships, rolled over former world champion Vanesa KALADZINSKAYA (BLR) in the quarterfinals of the European U23s and went on to the title and a No.9 in the rankings.
