Dave Schultz to Be Test Event for Possible Greco-Roman Rule Changes

By United World Wrestling Press

The Dave Schultz Memorial International (Jan. 29) will serve as a test event for new Greco-Roman rules under consideration by United World Wrestling. The new rules are aimed at increasing scoring from the feet and limiting passivity.

Rule changes and interpretations for test event are, in summary:

- No stoppage for passivity
- First point awarded upon second verbal warning
- Elimination of forced par-terre
- Elimination of consecutive gut wrenches
- All exposures worth two points
- Stricter interpretation of points awarded on edge of mat. Focus on decreasing pushing/passivity

The results of Dave Schultz will be analyzed and discussed by several commissions, with more test events possible before permanent changes are implemented.
