Wrestling's Competition Schedule Finalized for Tokyo Olympics

TOKYO (July 21) -- The wrestling competition schedule for the Tokyo Olympic Games has been finalized.

Wrestling will be contested on the final seven days of the Tokyo Olympics, Aug. 1-8, and held at Makhuari Messe Hall A. Women's wrestling will be spread across the seven days of the wrestling competition. Greco-Roman will take place Aug. 1-4, while freestyle is scheduled for Aug. 4-7.

Host nation Japan will look to continue its dominance in women's wrestling. The Japanese women have claimed 11 of 18 Olympic gold medals since 2004, the first year the sport was introduced at the Olympics.

UWW Signs MoU with Smoothcomp for Grappling, Amateur MMA

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (May 18) -- United World Wrestling (UWW) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Smoothcomp AB to collaborate in the areas of event management systems, competition software, and digital solutions for UWW Associated Styles, including Grappling, Pankration, and Amateur MMA.

The MoU was signed last week in Lausanne, Switzerland and in effect for 12 months from the date of signing.

It outlines the respective roles of both organizations and provides for UWW’s evaluation and potential use of Smoothcomp’s platform for event registration and competition management, as well as support for pilot events and development projects.

The agreement also includes the exploration of potential integration between Smoothcomp’s platform and UWW systems, including Athena and related tools.
