Wallpaper Wednesday Offers Free Images to Fans

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY, Switzerland (April 8) -- With little action on the mats United World Wrestling has created a free weekly wallpaper to ensure that fans can relive the action on the mat.

Distributed on Instagram and Facebook via their "Stories" feature, the wallpapers can be used as the backdrop to a user's phone. When the athlete you lick comes up simply screenshot and then load it as the backdrop using your android of iPhone.

Last week's Wallpaper Wednesday included Olympic champions Risako KAWAI (JPN), Mijain LOPEZ (CUB), Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) and world champion David TAYLOR (USA). Additional wallpapers will be made available every Wednesday for the next several months.

Kayaalp Breaks European Record with 13th Gold Medal

TIRANA, Albania (April 21) -- Riza KAYAALP (TUR) became the first wrestler to win 13 European Championships gold medals after he won the 130kg final in Tirana on Tuesday.

Kayaalp broke the long-standing record of Aleksandr KARELIN who had won 12 European Championships gold medals in his career.

Wrestling Darius VITEK (HUN) in the 130kg final, Kayaalp got the par terre position in the first period and brought the strong gut-wrench he has made his own to turn Vitek three times for six points. He went into the break leading 7-0.

Vitek got the par terre position in the second period but he failed to move the mountain-of-man Kayaalp.

Apart from Tuesday's gold, Kayaalp has won European titles in 2023, 2022, 2021, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012 and 2010.
