Pool A, Round 4: Russia (RUS) defeated Mongolia (MGL) 6-2
Russia handled Mongolia, winninng six of eight matches. Bekhbayar ERDENEBAT gave Mongolia a 1-0 lead with a 5-3 victory in the opening match over Azamat TUSKAEV at 57kg. Russia would come back to win the next three matches to go up 3-1. Mongolia got a much-needed win at 74kg as World No.4 Unurbat PUREVJAV claimed a dominant 10-2 victory over Khetik TCABOLOV. Russia would close the door with victories in the final three matches to win 6-2.

Georgia proved to be too much for Turkey. The dual meet opened with world champion Vladimir KHINCHEGASHVILI picking up a dominant 11-2 victory over World No.10 Suleyman ATLI at 57kg. One of the more competitive matches took place at 70kg as World No.6 Davit TLASHADZE (GEO) used a turn in the closing seconds for a come-from-behind victory. Turkey's lone bright spot came at 86kg where World No.4 Selim YASAR earned a shutout victory. Georgia earned a pin at 97kg and then took a forfeit at 125kg.

The United States was dominant from start to finish against Azerbaijan, earning an 8-0 shutout. After USA won the first three matches, the match at 65kg became extremely heated between Frank MOLINARO and Magomed MUSLIMOV. The American held on for the 4-1 victory. World bronze medalist James GREEN picked up his second 10-0 technical victory at 70kg. Alex DIERINGER, filling in for Olympic champion Jordan Burroughs, handled Ashraf ALIYEV 8-0 at 74kg. J'den COX claimed his second victory of the day at 86kg, beating World No.3 Alexander Taymurazovic GOSTIEV 3-2. The United States closed out the dual meet with victories from world champion Kyle SNYDER (97kg) and Olympic champion Jake VARNER (125kg).

In a tightly contested dual meet, Russia edged Georgia by criteria. The teams split the eight matches, but Russia finished with two more classification points. The dual meet started out with a battle of two wrestlers ranked in the top 10 in the world. 2015 world champion and No.1 Vladimir KHINCHEGASHVILI of Georgia earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over World No.9 Gadzhimurad RASHIDOV of Russia at 57kg. Georgia kept the momentum, winning the next match at 61kg. World No.5 Magomed KURBANALIEV blanked Zurabi IAKOBISHVILI 6-0 at 65kg. At 70kg, World No.5 Davit TLASHADZE of Georgia cruised to a 13-4 win over Radik VALIEV of Russia. Russia then battled back, winning the next three matches, which included victories from Khetik TCABOLOV (74kg), Shamil KUDIIAMAGOMEDOV (86kg) and Abdusalam GADISOV. GADISOV was pushed hard, but hung on for a 10-9 victory. World No.1 Geno PETRIASHVILI won for Georgia at heavyweight, 4-0, but it wouldn't be enough as Russia claimed the dual meet victory with more classification points.

Hassan RAHIMI gave up the first point, and then dominated the rest of the way, picking up an 11-1 technical fall at 57kg. Iran would get wins from Behnam Eshagh EHSANPOOR (61kg) and Meysam Abolfazl NASIRI (65kg) to go up 3-0. Gadzhimurad OMAROV gave Azerbaijan its first victory with a 6-3 win at 70kg. The teams traded wins in the next two weight classes, with Iran winning at 74kg and Azerbaijan taking the match 86kg. At 97kg, Aslanbeck ALBOROV gave Azerbaijan a much-needed victory, which made the score 4-3 heading into the final match. World No.6 Komeil GHASEMI closed out the dual meet with a hard-fought 6-4 victory to give Iran the 5-3 win.

But that would turn out to be one of the few bright spots for Turkey in the dual meet. Mongolia came back to win the next four matches and take a commanding 4-1 lead. Two-time world bronze medalist Mandakhnaran GANZORIG was especially dominant at 65kg, earning a 10-0 technical fall. Two-time world medalist Selim YASAR gave Turkey its second victory with a 10-3 win at 86kg. Mongolia would win at 97kg, and then pick up a forfeit at 125kg.

Returning World bronze medalist James GREEN was impressive scoring with double leg takedowns and a leg lace to claim a 10-0 technical fall. India was able to get on the scoreboard at 74kg when Parveen RANA earned a narrow 5-4 victory over Alex DIERINGER, who is filling in for Olympic champion Jordan BURROUGHS. Olympian J'den COX cruised to a 13-2 technical fall at 86kg. World champion Kyle SNYDER earned a technical fall shutout at 97kg. Olympic champion Jake VARNER took a forfeit in the final match at 125kg.
