LAS VEGAS, Nevada (September 11) – World champion duo Abdulrashid SADULAEV (RUS) and Abdusalam GADISOV (RUS) advanced to Friday evening’s gold medal round at the Senior Wrestling World Championships in Las Vegas.

Along with the Russian pair, 2013 junior world silver medalist BATBOLD Nomin (MGL) and defending champion SUKHEE Tserenchimed (MGL) give Mongolia a pair in the finals at The Orleans Arena.

Defending champion Sadulaev blew through Friday morning’s competition at 86kg with a fall and three technical falls and was only forced to go the distance in a 6-2 semifinal win over Asian champion Alireza KARIMIMACHIANI (IRI).

The 20-year-old Sadulaev will face world 2014 world bronze medal winner Selim YASAR (TUR). Sadulaev defeated Yasar, 9-2, in the first round of last year’s world meet in Tashkent.

 

At 97kg, Gadisov forged a 5-0 win over Khetag GAZUMOV (AZE) in the quarterfinals in a reversal of their European Games semifinal in June and then defeated Games silver medalist Elizbar ODIKADZE (GEO), 7-2, in the Friday’s semifinal.

To hold onto to his world crown, Gadisov squares off with 19-year-old Pan American Games gold medalist Kyle SNYDER (USA).
 

At the non-Olympic weight category of 61kg, Batbold takes his shot at defending champion Haji ALIEV (AZE) after notching an 8-4 triumph over Vasyl SHUPTAR (UKR) in the semifinals.  Shuptar and Aliev were both bronze medal winners at the European Games in June.

Shuptar upset European Games champion Aleksander BOGOMOEV (RUS), currently top-ranked in the United World Wrestling rankings, with a step-out point in the closing seconds for a 4-3 win in the round of 16.

In the final women’s event of the championships, Sukhee will try to salvage a year of mixed results by defending her world title against the Oksana HERHEL (UKR), who will be seeking her first major title with her trademark headlock.

A win by Sukhee would give Mongolia a second world champion in the women’s events – after SORONZONBOLD Battsetesg (MGL) grabbed the 63kg crown on Friday night.
