MACON, France (1 September) – Local favorite Koumba LARROQUE (FRA) fashioned three wins on Thursday to advance to the 67kg final on the opening day of women’s events at the Junior World Wrestling Championships.
European junior champion Larroque had the French faithful on their feet at Le Spot arena as she forged a 5-0 decision in the semifinals over Elis MANOLOVA (AZE) in the semifinals – a repeat of their European championship final in June.
In Thursday evening’s gold medal final, Larroque will take on Asian junior champion HAN Yue (CHN), who locked in a cross-ankle lock-and-turn on Alexis PORTER (USA) for a 10-0 win at 1:14 in the other 67kg final.
Han’s teammate and fellow Asia junior champion LIAO Xuejiao (CHN) outscored three opponents at 51kg, 26-5, to advance to the gold medal bout where she will meet 2015 junior world bronze medalist Ksenia NEZGOVOROVA (RUS).
Meanwhile, Japan also pushed a pair of wrestlers into the finals – 2015 Asia cadet champion Miyu NAKAMURA (48kg) and 2014 Asia cadet champion Yuzura KUMANO (59kg).
Nakamura rolled into the 44kg final with three wins, including a 10-0 demolition of European junior champion Oksana LIVACH (UKR) in the round of 16, with a combined score of 30-0 in a total time of 3:19.
Nakamura will meet 2013 cadet world champion Svetlana ANKICHEVA (KAZ), who stopped European junior bronze medalist Veronika GURSKAYA (RUS), 4-2, in the semifinals.
At 59kg, Kumano came from behind to defeat Asian junior champion PEI Xingru (CHN), 9-6, in the round of 16 and then recorded a pair of falls to secure her place in the finals opposite 2015 cadet world champion Anzhelina LYSAK (UKR).
Lysak, who won a bronze medal at the European under-23 championships in March, edged 2014 junior world bronze medal winner Kayla MIRACLE (USA), 6-5, in the semifinals.
