About Valeria

Valeria KOBLOVA (RUS) is going to her third Olympic Games after London and Rio. Nine years ago, in 2012, she reached the semifinals but lost to Saori YOSHIDA (JPN) and later the bronze medal bout as well. Four years later, she defeated Aisuluu TYNYBEKOVA (KGZ) in the semifinal of the 58kg in Rio. But in the final, she lost to Kari ICHO (JPN) to finish with a silver medal. A two-time World Championships medalist, Koblova is also a four-time European champion. After 2017, he decided to take a break from wrestling. She also gave birth to her first child in that period. She returned in 2020 to win the Russian Championships. Russia had not qualified the weight class for Tokyo Games and had to wait until Veronika CHUMIKOVA (RUS) pulled off a stunning come-from-behind fall over Grace BULLEN (NOR) and win the Tokyo spot. The Russian management decided to pick Koblova over Chumikova for the Tokyo Games.
