En revue, la Russie remporte chez elle la coupe du monde de lutte libre, les résultats des Thor Masters, l'approche du championnat d'Asie des U23, "Hollywood contre Bollywood" et le championnat d'Europe. 

1. La Russie remporte chez elle la coupe du monde de lutte libre
La Fédération russe a clôt la coupe du monde de lutte libre sur une impressionnante victoire 9 à 1 sur l'Iran, remportant leur septième titre de la coupe du monde Makhachkala de lutte libre. Leur dernière victoire remontait à 2011. 

Sans encaisser aucune défaite, la Russie a remporté quatre victoires ce weekend, totalisant ainsi sur les 40 combats menés 36 victoires pour 4 défaites. En plus de leur dernier combat face à l'Iran, les Russes ont vaincu Cuba (10-0), le Japon (8-2) et la Turquie (9-1). 

Pour la troisième place, les champions en titre, les États-Unis, se sont défait du Japon par 6-4.

Les deux équipes étaient à égalité trois victoires partout après leurs six premières rencontres. Sohsuke TAKATANI (JPN) a fait la différence grâce à une victoire par 14-3 sur Samuel Joseph BROOKS (USA), mais trois victoires consécutives des Américains Hayden ZILLMER, Kyven Ross GADSON et Anthony NELSON ont donné aux Stars and Stripes l'avantage 6-4 et la troisième place de la compétition. 

Cuba obtient la cinquième place grâce à leur victoire sur la Mongolie par 6-4 et la Géorgie la septième place sur la Turquie, vaincue 8-2.

2. Le championnat d'Asie des U23 débute jeudi
Le train des championnats continentaux des U23 s'arrêtera ce weekend en gare d'Oulan-Bator, capitale de la Mongolie, pour le championnat d'Asie des U23 2019. 

Le tournoi s'étendra sur quatre jours, de jeudi à dimanche.

3. L'Allemagne couronnée trois fois lors des Thor Masters 
Les Thor Masters, tournoi de lutte gréco-romaine, se sont conclus ce weekend à Nykobing Falster au Danemark, où l'Allemagne a mené la danse et dont elle repart trois fois couronnée. Le Danemark et l'Ukraine récoltent chacun deux médailles d'or et la Finlande, la Norvège et la Suède se contentent chacune d'un titre.

4. "Hollywood contre Bollywood" ouvre le 31 mars 
Les stars américaines et indiennes de la lutte féminine se feront face, ce dimanche 31 mars, dans le mythique théâtre Wiltern de Los Angeles pour 'Hollywood contre Bollywood.'

Selon www.beatthestreets-la.org, "le duel se distinguera de la cinquième édition annuelle de la compétition de charité internationale du festival Beat the Streets de Los Angeles."

Onze des quinzes meilleures lutteuses classées seront sur les tapis, avec six d'entre elles venues du top 5 toutes catégories de poids confondues (les classements les plus récents sont disponibles sur la page d'accueil de www.unitedworldwrestling.org). 

Des dix combats de stars, le plus intrigant semble être celui qui opposera, en 53kg, la dauphine du championnat du monde et première du classement Sarah HILDEBRANDT (USA) à la No.11 Vinesh VINESH (IND). 

Ce sera un remake des demi-finales du Dan Kolov du mois passé, où Vinesh avait sonné Hildebrant pour ce retrouver en finale de cet événement de série de classement et finalement chuter face à la Chinoise PANG Qianyu. 

Le duel débute à 15h le 31 mars.

5. Moins de trois semaines avant le championnat d'Europe 
Dans moins de trois semaines - 20 jours pour être exact -, Bucarest, capitale de la Roumanie, accueillera le championnat d'Europe de lutte 2019. D'année en année et de plus en plus, l'Europe démontre sa capacité à placer des lutteurs sur le podium du championnat du monde.

18 (10 gréco-romains, 3 lutte libre, 3 lutte féminine) des 30 champions du monde de l'année passée venaient d'un pays d'Europe.

Le tournoi débute le 8 avril et jusqu'au 14 les combats seront visibles sur www.unitedworldwrestling.org.

Lutte féminine : Larroque domine Fransson et les juniors montent dans les classements d'United World Wrestling

CORSIER-SUR-VEVEY (March 8) – Junior world champion Koumba LARROQUE (FRA) upset local favorite Jenny FRANSSON (SWE) at the Klippan Ladies Open in February as younger wrestlers continued their advance in the United World Wrestling rankings for women’s wrestling.

Larroque’s victory at 69kg over Rio 2016 bronze medalist Fransson in Klippan was her second triumph of 2017 and lifted the 18-year-old to No.7 after spending the second half of 2016 ranked between 16th-19th at 63kg.

At light heavyweight, Larroque falls in behind the four Olympic Games medalists, including Fransson, as well as Schultz Memorial winner at 75kg Masako FURUICHI (JPN), a three-time junior world champ who is eyeing a move to the heavyweight for Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile, cadet world champ Yui SUSAKI (JPN) continued her climb through the flyweight rankings with a victory in Klippan, lifting her to No.5 at 48kg, while teammate Haruna OKUNO (JPN) went from unranked to No.9 at 53kg with three technical falls and a 3-2 win over 2012 world champ Vanesa KALADZINSKAYA (BLR).

From the junior ranks, world champ Yuzuru KUMANO (JPN) debuts at No.9 after a taking third place at 58kg following hard-fought semifinal loss to Yarygin Grand Prix winner Aisuluu TYNYBEKOVA (KGZ).

Despite the success of the younger wrestlers in February, the biggest move of the month was recorded by Valeria LAZINSKAYA (RUS), who went from unranked to No.7 at 63kg after denying Petra OLLI (FIN) a fifth straight Klippan title in the women’s middleweight final.

Lazinskaya, a European Games gold medalist in June 2015, appeared to be in a slight slump since finishing 24th at the Las Vegas world championships. She slipped out of the rankings in January after an eighth-place finish at the Yarygin Grand Prix.

Also at the women’s winter classic, Olli defeated Rio 2016 silver medalist Maria MAMASHUK (BLR) in her opening bout. Other medalists to stumble in Klippan were Fransson, bronze medalist Monika MICHALIK (POL) and gold medalist Erica WIEBE (CAN).

Wiebe became the first of the six Rio 2016 gold medalists to suffer a loss, coming up short, 10-7, in a rally against rival Justina DISTACIO (CAN) in the 75kg final.

The lone Rio 2016 medalist to survive in Klippan with her record intact was silver medalist and second-ranked Valerie KOBLOVA-ZHOLOBOVA (RUS), who won a pair of bouts at 58kg and accepted an injury default from Tynybekova in the final.

48kg – Pan American champion Jasmine MIAN (CAN) returned to action after Rio 2016 and rolled to a second place in Klippan Open with three one-sided wins to return to the rankings at No.14.
