Cuba Califica Todas las Categorias en Estilo Grecorromano para los Juegos Olimpicos

OTTAWA, Canada – With four Cuban athletes winning their respective semifinals at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier, Cuba has now qualified all six Greco-Roman weights for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

In this weekend’s event, the top-two from each weight class will earn a bid for their countries to the 2020 Olympics.

Cuba entered the weekend with the 67 kg and 130 kg weight classes already qualified, thanks to medal-winning performances at the 2019 World Championships in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.

Cubans in the other four weight classes advanced to the Pan Am Olympic Qualifier finals on Friday and punched their tickets to Tokyo. They included Luis ORTA SANCHEZ (60 kg), Yosvanys PENA FLORES (77 kg), Daniel GREGORICH HECHAVARRIA (87 kg) and Gabriel ROSILLO KINDELAN (97 kg).

The unofficial team champions from the 2016 Olympic Games, Cuba seeks to continue its dominance, sending a full squad to Tokyo, including returning Olympic champions Ismael BORRERO MOLINA (67 kg) and Mijain LOPEZ NUNEZ (130 kg).

The United States also had four athletes qualify their weights today, advancing to the finals, including Ildar HAFIZOV (60 kg), Alejandro SANCHO (67 kg), Josef RAU (87 kg) and G’Angelo HANCOCK (97 kg).

Other wrestlers that qualified include Julian HORTA ACEVEDO (COL) at 67 kg, Jose VARGAS RUEDA (MEX) at 77 kg, and Yasmani ACOSTA FERNANDEZ (CHI) and Eduard SOGHOMONYAN (BRA) at 130 kg.

At 67 kg, Horta of Colombia was funded by the United World Wrestling Development Technical Assistance program, which allows athletes from developing countries the opportunities to compete at top-level events. Horta’s qualification for the Olympic Games would not have been possible without the support of UWW.

Not only did Horta qualify for the Olympics but he also went on to win gold at the Pan American Olympic Qualifier, defeating Sancho of USA in the 67 kg finals, 4-0.

The finals featured three head-to-head matches between Cuba and the United States: 60 kg, 87 kg and 97 kg.

Orta of Cuba won his third Pan American gold medal on Friday night, defeating Hafizov of USA in a decisive 7-0 victory in the 60 kg finals.

At 87 kg, Rau picked up his second gold medal of the week as two-time U23 World medalist Gregorich was unable to compete, due to injury.  

Rosillo and Hancock battled each other at 97 kg for the third time in less than a week and second time for gold. Hancock won in the finals last week, 10-0, but this time, it was Rosillo taking the gold in an 11-8 shootout, making it one of the most entertaining bouts of the night.

Cuba earned another gold medal at 77 kg as Pena dominated Vargas from Mexico with an 8-0 technical fall.

Claiming the title at 130 kg was 2017 World bronze medalist Acosta of Chile, who overwhelmed Soghomonyan of Brazil with a 9-0 win in the finals.

Action continues tomorrow with the women’s freestyle Pan Am Olympic Qualifier.

OTTAWA, Canada – Cuatro Cubanos avanzaron a las finales del Clasificatorio Olímpico Panamericano por lo que consiguieron la plaza para los Juegos Olímpicos 2020; por ello, Cuba ha clasificado atletas en las seis categorías del estilo grecorromano para Tokio.

En este evento, los dos mejores atletas de cada categoría calificaron a sus países a la justa Olímpica.

Cuba llego a este evento con las categorías 67 kg y 130 kg ya clasificadas; en las otras cuatro categorías ganaron sus semifinales este viernes para garantizar sus lugares en Tokio. El representativo cubano está conformado por Luis ORTA SANCHEZ (60 kg), Yosvanys PENA FLORES (77 kg), Daniel GREGORICH HECHAVARRIA (87 kg) y Gabriel ROSILLO KINDELAN (97 kg).

El grupo de calificados cubanos se completa con los dos campeones olímpicos, Ismael BORRERO MOLINA (67 kg) y Mijain LOPEZ NUÑEZ (130 kg).

Los Estados Unidos también calificaron cuatro categorías de peso hoy. Los clasificados fueron Ildar HAFIZOV (60 kg), Alejandro SANCHO (67 kg), Josef RAU (87 kg) y G’Angelo HANCOCK (97 kg).

Orta de Cuba venció a Sancho de USA, 7-0, para obtener su tercer medalla de oro panamericana.

En 87 kg, Rau gano su segunda medalla de oro de la semana, ya que en la final, el medallista mundial U23 Gregorich, no pudo competir debido a una lesión.

Rosillo y Hancock lucharon en 97 kg por tercer vez en menos de una semana y por segunda vez el oro fue para Hancock, quien gano la semana pasada 10-0, pero esta vez la historia fue diferente y Rosillo derroto a Hancock 11-8, en unos de los combates más emocionante de la noche.

Cuba gano otra medalla de oro en la categoría 77 kg cuando Peña domino a Vargas de México con una victoria contundente de 8-0. Peña también gano el título del Campeonato Panamericano la semana pasada.

El título en los 130 kg fue para el medallista de bronce mundial en 2017, Yasmani Acosta de Chile, quien superó a Soghomonyan de Brasil con una victoria por 9-0.

Acción continua mañana con el estilo libre femenil.

L'Espagne domine le Grappling européen avec des titres par équipe

BUCHAREST, Roumanie (13 mars) -- L'équipe féminine d'Espagne est sortie victorieuse des championnats d'Europe de Grappling qui se sont tenus à Bucharest en Roumanie durant le week-end. Emmenée par les deux médailles d'or d'Anna CASTELLS (ESP), l'équipe espagnole a démontré ses compétences et détermination à remporter le titre par équipe.

L'équipe féminine d'Espagne a surclassé l'Ukraine, puissance du grappling, dans les deux styles -- Grappling et Gi. Castells a remporté des médailles d'or dans les deux épreuves.

En Grappling 64kg, Castells a affronté Sandra PNIAK (POL) en finale. Après un démarrage lent, Castells a marqué un  takedown quand Pniak a ralenti. Dans la même mêlée,  Pniak a réussi à renverser la position et Castells a abandonné deux points. Pniak a habilement joué la montre à 30 secondes de la fin et a décidé de défendre son avance sur critères de 2-2.

Cependant, dans les 20 dernières secondes, Castells a réussi à lancer Pniak et marquer une exposition pour 2 points et gagner 4-2.

Un jour plus tard, elle affronte une autre "grappleuse" polonaise. En finale des 64kg de l'épreuve Gi, Joanna ZABULEWICZ (POL) a défié Castells mais a connu le même sort que sa coéquipière Pniak.

Zabulewicz a décidé d'aller au tapis en premier, ce qui a donné deux points à Castells. L'Espagnole a été pénalisée pour avoir été passive après avoir pris le dessus, ce qui a permis à Zabulewicz d'obtenir son premier point. Zabulewicz a continué à engager Castells qui n'était manifestement pas d'humeur à le faire. Elle est à nouveau sanctionnée pour passivité et son avance est désormais de 2-2 sur critères.

Dans la dernière minute, réalisant qu'elle pourrait être qualifiée de passive pour la troisième fois, Castells a décidé d'être plus active. Elle n'a pas marqué de point, mais cela a suffi pour continuer à lutter contre Zabulewicz et gagner 2-2.

Le succès de Castells aux Championnats d'Europe de grappling n'est que le dernier en date. L'année dernière, elle a remporté les championnats du monde de grappling en 64 kg devant son public.

Quatre autres championnes d'Europe ont été couronnées en grappling : Pnina ARONOV (ISR) en 53 kg, Melissa BENEDINI (ITA) remportant l'or en 58 kg, la championne du monde Kateryna SHAKALOVA (UKR) remportant l'or en 71 kg et Janina CZYCZYN (POL) remportant l'or en 90 kg.

Czyczyn a également remporté la médaille d'or dans l'épreuve des Gi, en remportant le titre en 90 kg face à sa coéquipière Magdalena ZASZCZUDLOWICZ (POL)..

Dans l'épreuve Gi, l'Espagne a réalisé une performance encore meilleure avec trois médaillées d'or. Outre Castells, Naiomi MATTHEWS (ESP) a remporté l'or en 53kg et Micaela COMPANY (ESP) a remporté l'or en 71kg. Shakalova a décidé de ne pas participer à l'épreuve Gi.

Mais l'Ukraine avait encore une championne puisque Viktoriia SYNIAVINA (UKR) a remporté la médaille d'or dans la catégorie des 58 kg.

Les étoiles de Kiziuk

Roman KIZIUK (UKR) a illuminé l'arène de Bucarest avec deux performances exceptionnelles en deux jours, remportant les médailles d'or en 92kg dans les épreuves de Grappling et Grappling Gi.

Incontestablement la plus grande star de la compétition, Kiziuk a poursuivi sur la lancée de Pontevedra, en Espagne, l'année dernière, et a dominé la compétition à Bucarest, ajoutant deux médailles d'or européennes à ses médailles d'or des Championnats du monde.

Dans le format Gi, Kiziuk a affronté Roy DAGAN (ISR) en finale et s'est montré offensif dès le début. Alors que Dagan tentait de bloquer Kiziuk avec ses jambes, l'Ukrainien continuait à chercher des solutions pour marquer des points. Dagan a abandonné après deux minutes, ce qui a permis à Kiziuk de se mettre en position de headpinch , ce qui lui a permis de marquer trois points et de remporter la victoire 5-0.

Plus tôt dans la journée, Kiziuk a obtenu deux walkovers et une victoire par soumission pour entrer en finale.

Dans l'épreuve de grappling, Kiziuk a été encore plus mortel, en commençant par une victoire 5-0 sur Avraham IBRAGIMOV (ISR), une correction 18-0 sur Eduard ORAC (FRA) en quart de finale et en battant Piotr FRECHOWICZ (POL) 2-1 en demi-finale.

Face à son coéquipier Mykhailo MUZYCHENKO (UKR), il a remporté une victoire 3-1 mais a réalisé l'essentiel de l'attaque. Dans la dernière minute, il a été pénalisé d'un point pour passivité mais cela n'a pas fait trop de mal.

Sa victoire au Grappling Gi a permis à l'Ukraine de remporter le titre par équipe avec 120 points, soit quatre de plus qu'Israël, deuxième.

L'Ukraine a terminé deuxième dans l'épreuve de grappling, la Pologne ayant dominé le spectacle et terminé avec 133 points. L'Ukraine a terminé deuxième avec 104 points.

Jakub NAJDEK (POL), Mateusz MAZUR (POL) et Andrzej IWAT (POL) ont été les champions d'Europe pour la Pologne en 77kg, 84kg et 100kg respectivement.

Les autres champions en Grappling étaient Omri HAVIV (ISR) en 62kg, Anthony DE OLIVEIRA (FRA) en 66kg, Alessio SACCHETTI (ITA) en 71kg et Ioannis KARGIOTAKIS (GRE) en 130kg.

Outre Kiziuk dans l'épreuve Gi, Sacchetti et Iwat ont également remporté deux médailles d'or. Sacchetti a battu Iker CAMARA (ESP) dans la finale des 71kg 8-0 et Viki DABUSH (ISR) 4-2 dans la finale Gi.

Iwat a affronté Ivan Malin dans les deux finales et a réussi à remporter des combats serrés. En finale de grappling, il a battu Malin 4-2 et en finale de Gi, il a gagné 6-4.

Les autres champions en Gi étaient Mayis NERSESYAN (ARM) en 62kg, Alejandro CARRERAS (ESP) en 66kg, Pavlo MAKSYMCHUK (UKR) en 77kg, Nimrod RYEDER (ISR) en 84kg et Wojciech WILK (POL) en 130kg.
